Screen Printing

A printing technique that first appeared in a recognizable form in China during the Shang Dynasty using a woven mesh to support an ink-blocking stencil.

Originally a profitable industrial technology, screen printing was eventually adopted by artists as an expressive and conveniently repeatable medium for duplication well before the 20th century. It is currently popular both in fine arts and in commercial printing.

Linocut

first used by the artists of Die BrĂŒcke in Germany between 1905-13, the linocut was established as a professional print medium after the input of Picasso and Matisse. It is a variation on the woodcut in which the design is cut into a piece of linoleum where the uncarved mirrors the parts of the image to show (printed). The first large colour linocuts made by an American artist were those of Walter Inglis Anderson, ca. 1943-1945, which were exhibited at the Brooklyn Museum in 1949. Today, linocut is a popular technique among street artists and street art-related fine art.
