Over the course of 12 months, photographer Steve Kenward documented 46 craftspeople, shooting them in their place of work and examining the details that surround them. People that use traditional methods to make unique, hand crafted products that still have relevance today. These people are passionate about what they do and take care in everything they produce.
Steve travelled more than 6,000 miles around the UK shooting everyone from brickmaker and boatbuilder to knifemaker and neon artist, meeting 14 inquisitive dogs and 3 indifferent cats along the way.
Along with the photos, Material will be running events and workshops throughout the Month. For more information or to sign up to events, please visit our workshops & events page.
Growing up in Kent, Steve’s love of photography was inspired by the pages of National Geographic magazine, where a world outside the suburbs enticed him. After leaving school, he was lucky enough to get a job in a studio where he learned the fine art of tea making and the technical side of photography.
Some of his clients include Port Magazine, Smith Journal, Allure, Hole & Corner, Habitat, Swarovski.
