These beautifully illustrated plates, published in 1863 catalogue the geometrical forms of snowflakes.
The forms of the snow-crystals were observed and sketched over a century prior to this publication. The Transactions of the Royal Society of London, for 1755, contain representations of ninety one varieties with descriptions by the 18th-century Dutch physician John Nettis
The early-19th-century eminent Arctic explorer William Scoresby, has given in his Arctic Regions, drawings for ninety six varieties.
